Overview
The Mustang MTL25 is an older compact track loader aimed at buyers who need serious working ability from a machine that still costs well below newer premium CTLs. It steps up over smaller track loaders with more lift, more bucket, and more hydraulic capacity, which makes it more useful for contractors handling heavier site work rather than just light cleanup and support tasks.
With a turbocharged Yanmar 4TNV106T diesel producing 72.04 kW, a rated lifting capacity of 1,600 kg, and breakout force of 3,942.63 kg, the MTL25 has enough muscle for grading, bulk loading, material handling, backfilling, and general soft-ground work. At 4,850 kg operating weight with 0.3 bar ground pressure, it also carries itself well on looser surfaces where wheeled machines can struggle for grip and flotation.
Performance & Efficiency
The MTL25 has the numbers to handle more than just light site chores. A 1,600 kg lifting capacity gives it enough headroom for pallets, heavier material loads, buckets of spoil, and broader grading or loading work than smaller CTLs manage comfortably. The 0.69 cu m bucket also gives it a better shot at staying productive in bulk material movement instead of constantly nibbling at the pile.
Breakout force of 3,942.63 kg helps it dig into stockpiles and compacted material with more confidence, while hydraulic flow of 89.33 L/min makes it one of the more attachment-capable machines in this older bracket. Relief valve pressure of 206 bar backs that up with decent hydraulic authority, and the 70-degree rack-back angle is especially useful for holding material securely during travel. Maximum forward speed of 11.1 km/h is respectable for site movement, even if this machine is more about traction and working strength than fancy cycle speed claims.
Ground pressure of 0.3 bar is still a major asset. It gives the MTL25 useful flotation on muddy, soft, or disturbed surfaces where heavier ground-loading machines can quickly become expensive problems. For contractors dealing with fill, wet subgrades, or rough site conditions, that matters more than polished plastics or a prettier dashboard.
Maintenance & Ownership
The MTL25 can still make sense as a used value buy, but it is absolutely a condition-first machine. This is not the kind of loader to buy because the brochure specs look stout and the price looks tempting. Buyers need to pay close attention to undercarriage wear, hydraulic response, engine condition, leaks, and whether previous owners treated maintenance as a routine or as a creative writing exercise.
The upside is that the machine is mechanically simpler than modern CTLs. The turbocharged Yanmar diesel is easier to live with than many newer electronically dense setups, and the 12 V electrical system keeps basics more manageable. Fuel capacity of 108.25 L and hydraulic capacity of 95 L also support decent working time, though repair costs can swing wildly depending on how tired the machine really is.
In the AED 65,000–88,000 range, the MTL25 makes the most sense for buyers who want strong older-machine value for soft-ground work, loading, grading, and occasional attachment use. It can still do solid work, but it is not a blind-purchase machine by any stretch.
In Cabin & Interior
Cab comfort is not where the MTL25 shines. Like plenty of older compact track loaders, it was designed around function, durability, and getting through a shift rather than making that shift especially pleasant. Operators coming from newer CTLs will notice the older feel quickly in noise, ergonomics, and general refinement.
Still, the machine remains usable. Cab height of 2.23 m and overall dimensions keep it manageable around typical job sites, and operators familiar with older loaders will likely find the controls straightforward enough. It is not trying to be premium, and frankly, it does not need to be. It just needs to work without drama, which is usually the more honest target anyway.
Safety Features
Safety is rooted more in machine stability and operator awareness than electronics. The 1.86 m width over tracks, five rollers per side, low 0.3 bar ground pressure, and planted undercarriage all help the MTL25 stay composed during loading and travel over mixed terrain. Ground clearance of 0.36 m is also decent for site conditions that are less than tidy.
As with any older CTL, real-world safety depends heavily on condition. Worn tracks, loose controls, poor visibility from damaged glass or panels, and neglected service can undo a lot of what the original design got right. On used machines like this, the inspection is part of the safety package.
In Comparison
Caterpillar 289
A stronger-known market reference with comparable size and soft-ground purpose. Often carries better brand confidence and easier resale conversations.
Caterpillar 297
Another established CTL in the same general class, typically seen as a safer-brand benchmark for buyers comparing older tracked loaders.
Mustang MTL25
Usually the lower-entry-price option. It can offer useful lift, solid hydraulics, and strong flotation, but buyers accept more variability in condition, parts support, and ownership experience.
Verdict
Rated 3 stars, the Mustang MTL25 is a capable older compact track loader for buyers who care more about lift, flotation, and hydraulic strength than cab comfort or modern refinement. It still makes sense for grading, loading, bulk material handling, and general soft-ground work when the machine has been maintained properly.
In the AED 65,000–88,000 range, it works best as a value-oriented purchase for experienced buyers who know how to judge used equipment properly. It can earn its keep, but this is very much a machine where the condition matters as much as the badge.
